Medical Clowning at Shaare Zedek Medical Center

February 14, 2017

Desktop2On Tuesday, many of our students joined Project L.I.V.E. (Learning in Israel and Volunteering with Excellence) and boarded our chartered bus to participate in bringing smiles to the faces of the sick patients who are recovering at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim.

All of our students received special training, where they are taught different methods of entertaining sick children, such as singing and balloon sculpting. After completing the initial training sessions, our Medical Clowns were heralded for coming and spread the joy of clowning and live music!

Sharfman’s Performs Chessed for Project L.I.V.E. at Yad Eliezer

December 5, 2016

yad-eliezerIn addition to our own unique Chessed opportunities that we have  every Thursday afternoon, we also run an exclusive Chessed program called: Project L.I.V.E. (Learning in Israel and Volunteering with Excellence).

This program, allows us to perform special Chessed activities and appear at great Chessed-oriented events. We recently had the privilege of visiting Yad Eliezer, an organization that is legendary for providing food and more to the IDF as well as the needy people of Israel!

After hearing the stories of the families and soldiers that we’d be helping, we were eager to start and give of our time and energy to this worthy cause. It took planning and team work but at the end of the long night, We all stayed and successfully packaged over 50 boxes with items such as: oil, ketchup, noodles, rice, shampoo and body wash!!

It may have a been a night “away” from friends or just simply hanging out in the dorm, but it was definitely a night well spent!

Below are some pics from this great evening of bonding and Chessed!!

A Chessed Trip to Seeach Sod: An Organization That Helps Children with Special Needs

October 30, 2016

img_0576Recently, we boarded our charter bus and were accompanied by Mrs. Nissel, our Aim Bayit and Chessed Coordinator and our Advisors, to go on a special trip to Seeach Sod, an organization that provides an educational framework for religious children with special needs. They have various programs that are geared to enhance the quality of life for these children, and at the same time help them integrate themselves into mainstream society.

We were all blown away by the beautiful facility and by the unique care and attention that is given towards religious children with special needs.

We were taken around by Rebbetzin Bergstein, who shared her inspiring story with us. She struggled to find any sort of facility like this for her own daughter about 20 years ago, which helped the girls appreciate what is now available for these children.

All of us were then split up into groups and did an art project with the various classrooms they were assigned to. The children loved the energy and special RUACH that us Sharfman’s students brought with them…

Soo Much Chessed is in the Air!

October 27, 2016

Guest Post by Mrs. Debbi Nissel, Chessed Coordinator

Hi everyone it’s Mrs. Nissel! By now all the girls have surely returned rejuvenated from our Sukkos break. In the weeks of school that we have had, the girls really possess an overall appreciation for all of the faculty and classes at Sharfman’s. Personally, I love being able to watch girls take the new knowledge that they acquire with each class and put it to use in daily activities.

As I’m sure you know our goal in Sharfman’s is to allow you to acquire tools for life and forever move in a positive direction. As such, we want you to enhance your year in Israel not only through incredible classes but also by performing acts of Chessed! And so, as Chessed Coordinator, I personally meet with each and every student to build a unique Chessed opportunity that will allow you to maximize your Chessed experience.

After customizing a Chessed experience that will suit you, we hold our Annual Chessed Workshop in which we dispense great advice and insights into performing Chessed with a smile and also serve some tasty cookies!
