All About Our Enchanting Tefillah Tiyul!

October 31, 2011

Recently, we went on a Tiyul and were accompanied by our Mechanechet, Mrs. Fuld who also teaches an unbelievable Tefillah course to us all! The reason why she joined us on this Tiyul is because it was a Tefillah Tiyul! You see, at Bnot Torah/Sharfman’s we don’t simply learn in a classroom. Rather, we live our learning and explore our land through Tiyulim and various trips throughout the year. And so, Mrs. Fuld acted as our Tour Guide as she explained to us not just interesting nuggets about Tefillah, but also about the various graves of Tzaddikim that we visited. in fact, on that Tiyul we visited the special Kever of the one and only Shimon HaTzaddik! From there our chartered bus took us to the gravesite of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein zt”l. This location was meaningful to soo many of us, as we all had heard of Rav Moshe, and now were able to daven and say Tehillim right oppositive his Kever! All in all, it was an enchanting experience that enhanced not only Mrs. Fuld’s class

A Night with Our Madricha Yehudis!

October 28, 2011

I can really tell you that Sharfman’s is a school that doesn’t just say they  care about you…they actually do!! Here’s my latest example and I wanted to share it with all of you. Depending upon the day, we have afternoon classes that run from 3:40pm until 7:00pm. At the conclusion of the day some of us were standing around thinking of great things to do, when all of a sudden our Madricha, Yehudis Jacobowitz, walks by us to see how we are all doing. We end up shmoozing with her and before you know it she has ordered us our very own pizza pie for supper! All of us girls, who come from different cities, were able to hang out, bond, and really get close

Exclusive Sharfman’s Simchas Beis HaShoeva!!

October 23, 2011

On the last night of Sukkos, we were privileged to be hosted by one of our amazing Mechanchot, Mrs. Fuld! Best of all, when we arrived at her door, she told us that the party was not going to simply be in her house—but in her stunning rooftop  Sukkah! To describe her Sukkah would not do it justice. Her Sukkah was soo beautiful and festive—there was even a chandalier in it—and being in her Sukkah really enhanced the setting  for our exclusively Sharfman’s Simchas Beis Hashoeva! Plus, who can forget that there was wonderful music and great food. In fact, we were joined by a talented young musician, Meira, who also happens to be an alumnae of our school. She really increased the spiritual energy in the Sukkah as she led us in a beautiful Kumzitz and dancing throughout the evening! Best of all, our teacher, Rabbi Kahane, surprised us by knocking on the door of the Sukkah and giving us  a meaningful shiur on the significance of Hoshana Rabbah! We all left with a great feeling of warmth

Sukkos Vacation Bayit Cham!

October 10, 2011

If any word comes to mind right now, it’s simply WOW!!! What an evening!! We just got back from our first incredible Bayit Cham at the home of our Chonechet, Mrs. Rachel Rose! And talk about a royal welcome!-there was no need for a red carpet, as awaiting our arrival was an absolutely delicious French onion soup with scrumptious garlic bread to go with it. Then, as we were all still savoring the super taste in our mouths, out came steaming hot yummy whole-wheat baked ziti, and of course a fresh, seasoned salad to top it off. We know what you’re thinking…now YOU’RE getting hungry!! But wait…the best part was yet to come! Our Chonechet returned from the oven with the most unbelievable mouth-watering molten milk chocolate chip cakes for dessert! This was too good to be true! Those cakes disappeared before we could even say thank you!! At this point in the evening I realized just how much the Faculty here cares about you and it’s really true that: “Sharfman’s is a FAMILY!”

A Surprise Birthday Party & Our Edible Sukkah!

October 9, 2011

We just had our first Bayit Cham at our Chonechet’s house. It was such a blast!! We were greeted with a yummy supper of baked ziti and a fresh veggie platter (with a great dip of course!). All of us really enjoyed having a homecooked dinner! After we were all satiated with food and shmooze, out came a beautiful pink surprise birthday cake for both Joanie Tawil and Renanna Pellman :) The evening continued with us discussing and writing down personal goals for our year in Israel at Bnot Torah/Sharfman’s. We can’t wait to see how much we’ve accomplished when we open our envelopes after Pesach! We then gathered around and had some inspirational time with Charlie Harary and his videos on Yom Kippur and personal growth. We all came away with some powerful messages!

And last, but definitely not least, we ended off with some Sukkos preparations. We broke out the supplies and constructed our very own edible Sukkah! We got to design our Sukkah using tea biscuits

Sharfman’s Performs Chessed at Yad Eliezer

October 4, 2011

In addition to our own unique Chessed opportunities that Mrs. Nissel, our Chessed Coordinator, arranges for us to perform on a weekly basis, we recently had the privilege of visiting Yad Eliezer, an organization that is legendary for providing food and more to the IDF as well as the needy people of Israel! After hearing the stories of the families and soldiers that we’d be helping, we were eager to start and give of our time and energy to this worthy cause.

It took planning and team work but at the end of the long night, we had successfully packaged over 25 boxes with items such as: oil, ketchup, noodles, rice, shampoo and body wash. It may have a been a night “away” from friends or just simply…

Post Tzom Gedaliah Break Fast in Sharfman’s

October 2, 2011

We’ve had an AMAZING time in Sharfman’s soo far!! After an informative and inspirational Orientation Week and an unforgettable Shabbaton, we had a whirlwind of classes…and then it was time to experience our first Rosh HaShanah in Israel! On Sunday, we commemorate Tzom Gedaliah, The Fast of Gedaliah, and had a half day of classes. This fast day was instituted to commemorate the assassination of Gedaliah Ben Achikam, the Governor of Israel during the days of Nebuchadnetzar King of Babylonia. As a result of Gedaliah’s death, many thousands of Jews were murdered or forced into exile. Following the fast, while we always have constant access to our own fully-equipped apartment kitchen, Sharfman’s really takes care of us on a physical and spiritual level. In fact, Rabbi Sharfman himself was in school to personally serve a warm and nutritious soup along with a fresh baguette to enliven each and every girl. Best of all, it was a great opportunity to really bond with everyone from Shana Aleph…
