Bnot Torah Blog Highlights of 2009!
December 28, 2009
Can you believe that there have been 50, that’s right 50, Bnot Torah Blog posts since the start of our 2009-2010 academic calendar? From Orientation Week through the final week of the year 2009, it has been a rewarding experience to share with students, parents and alumnae just a small slice of both the academic and social activities that occur in our seminary.
So with that in mind, we present our own retrospective, to allow you to look back, catch up, or simply review the “Bnot Torah Blog Highlights of 2009.”
Enjoy!

Sharfman’s at Kad V’Chomer!
December 27, 2009
In addition to our Art and Judaism class, Sharfman’s recently gave the entire school another opportunity to express their artistic talents at Kad V’Chomer! Both Shana Aleph and Shana Bet participated in a great morning of fun. We boarded the bus and then quickly began to move our paint and brushes on the various objects that we selected to design as our very own ceramic masterpiece. Throughout the morning, girls designed items ranging from mugs to clocks. Indeed, some students even elected to design Judaica items such as their very own Ceramic Menorah to a beautiful and original…

Iron Chef: Sharfman’s Style!
December 22, 2009
Guest Post by Riki Gewirtz
“Iron Chef” was the name of the game! All the Sharfman’s girls got to show off their creativity and culinary skills during the Annual Iron Chef Cooking Competition. The girls split up into 3 different groups. Each group received the same exact ingredients, and whoever came up with the tastiest recipe with those ingredients won the game. The atmosphere was intense as the girls had a very limited time to create their masterpieces. The girls worked hard and had a great time while creating the most amazing results. While the food was in the oven, the girls enjoyed snacks, drinks, and music. When the food was finally done, (it seemed like an eternity compared to the speed in which it was prepared and seasoned!) delicious cakes with apple filling, cookie crumbles, and much much more came out the school oven. The aroma in the room was heavenly!

The Garden of Emunah Morning Club
December 20, 2009
Some people wake up and the first thing they do (after Modeh Ani and washing their hands of course!) is exercise. Others choose to enjoy a nice brew of their favorite morning coffee. Here in Bnot Torah, we have The Garden of Emunah Morning Club
Led by the esteemed educator, Rabbi Shmuel Galandauer, girls wake up early each morning to enhance their day with uplifting Torah thoughts of Emunah, and by extension, strengthen their overall relationship with Hashem. This group, based upon the best selling book, The Garden of Emunah, was started in response to a growing desire from our students to increase their Kavannah in Davening right from Shacharit and on throughout the course of the day!

Inspiring Beit HaMikdash Tiyul
December 19, 2009
On the third day of Chanukah, we were accompanied by our Tour Guide, Rabbi Jacobs, to take a guided tour of The Davidson Exhibition and Virtual Reconstruction Center located in the Jerusalem Archaeological Park. Truth be told, Chanukah is the best time to bring the Beit HaMikdash to life. I’m sure we would all agree that this site, adjacent to both Har HaBayit and The Kotel, is arguably the best place in the world to help us actualize the events of the Chanukah story! The Davidson Center allowed us to explore the history of the Beit HaMikdash through various means: computerized mediums, artifacts…

Chanukah Fun at Ariella Katz’s House!
December 15, 2009
Guest Post by Ariella Katz, Shana Aleph Chonechet
As I’m sure you know by now, as a Bnot Torah/Sharfman’s Shana Aleph Chonechet, not only do I get to assist people in their academic growth, but being that all of the Chonechet’s live within minutes of the school, we are a seminary that is also able to have a staff that features an open door policy so that we can really get to know each and every girl as a truly unique person. One of the greatest opportunities to really bond together, is at our twice a month Bayit Cham. At Bayit Cham, girls come to the local homes of their Chonechet for anything from an evening entree as well as a great activity. In short, Bayit Cham is really a great time that all of the girls from our four different academic levels, get to spend valuable time in a relaxed home atmosphere…and this past Bayit Cham, was no exception! To get us in the holiday spirit, we started out the evening with Hot Apple Cider that also featured cinnamon and cubes of fresh apples floating in it-which we ladled out into glasses. It was really a gourmet treat!

Annual Chanukah Chagigah 2009!
December 14, 2009
The Annual Bnot Torah/Sharfman’s Chanukah Chagigah lived up to the hype! From start to finish it left everyone in the audience, from students, to visiting Alumnae, to faculty wanting more
But let’s start from the beginning…The evening kicked off with a beautifully decorated and festive feel. Indeed, when you walked into the Bnot Torah/Sharfman’s Chanukah Chagigah, you were greeted to a color scheme of blue and white balloons, napkins, and table cloths, while the walls were adorned with what seemed like shiny dancing Menorahs and Dreidels. Once the meal was completed it was on to the skits and all things comical at the 2009 Bnot Torah/Sharfman’s Chanukah Chagigah hosted by Shelley Adelson and Becky Glowgower. The hostesses began the evening with a hilarious Question and Answer routine that really got the crowd into a humorous spirit…
