Golan Tiyul

October 15, 2009

After our Sukkot vacation, school has been off to a great start. And yet, I can’t believe we’re already getting ready for another overnight Tiyul (trip) and I haven’t even gotten a chance to write about the first one. We spent 2 days having a great time touring the Golan Heights. Rabbi Jacobs is the best guide ever!

On the first day we had some hands-on training in living the life of a Bedouin. We got to dress the part, ride donkeys, bake Mehadrin Bedouin Pita using the same ovens and stuff they do and eat them in a tent with Humous (we ate the Pitas with Humous, not the tent). It was fun learning about how life was like in Israel in ancient days.

In Teveriya we got to visit the Kevarim of Rabbi Akiva and his wife, Rachel. Right near him is the Kever of Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzato, who wrote the Sefer Mesillas Yesharim which we learn in Rabbi Sharfman’s class!

It was great taking time out to swim in the Kinneret Lake. The water level was low because of a lack of rains last year and we got a good idea of why it is so important to pray for rain in Israel.

Speaking of water, we also really enjoyed going to the Banias Waterfall and Tel Dan. Another hike was to the Yehudea Water Pools, where we got a chance to do some more swimming before we went Kayaking on the Jordan River! We could go on and on about how great the tiyul was. All in all, it was a great time to bond and really get to know our Land and the girls in our school that much more :-)
